Weekend planner: Women’s Health Care Symposium set for Saturday

The sixth annual Women’s Health Care Symposium will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea. Doors open at 8 a.m.
The program includes speakers from Mayo Clinic Health System who will talk about heart disease, women and depression and the Mediterranean diet. Dr. Sandra Birchem in the Cardiology Department; obstetrician Ealena Callender; and registered dietitians Amy Pleimling and registered dietitian Emily Schmidt will present.
The symposium is sponsored in part by the Naeve Health Care Foundation and is free with a complimentary breakfast. Last year, about 275 people attended the event according to Kathy Leidal, public affairs specialist for the hospital. Door prizes will be given out. Attendees are asked to register by calling 379-2046.
Friday
• The “50 Shades of Red” art exhibit will be at the Albert Lea Art Center. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
• Entertainment from “Mega Force” will be at the Eagles Club in Albert Lea.
• An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be at the Moose Lodge in Albert Lea. Entertainment by “Terrie-okie” will begin at 7:30 p.m.
• The musical “Guys on Ice” will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased over the phone by calling Albert Lea Community Theatre. “Guys on Ice” is a musical comedy that tells the story of two ice-fishing buddies from Wisconsin who talk and sing about life, love and the one that got away.
Saturday

• The Albert Lea Family Y indoor triathlon will begin at 9 a.m. at the Albert Lea Family Y. Cost is $25 for one member, $40 for one non-member, a member team is $20 a person and a nonmember team is $35 a person. Register by going to the front desk, sending registration with payment or online at runreg.com.
• The Albert Lea School District Science Fair kicks off with judging at 9 a.m. Projects are open for viewing from the public from 11 a.m. to noon.
• A fish-fry fundraiser will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Albert Lea. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. The event is hosted by the Daybreakers Kiwanis Club.
• A soup and pie supper will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Emmons Lutheran Church. Donations go to a new first responder unit.
• The Eagles Lodge will be serving a taco plate, beans and rice. Entertainment will be “Big Ben & The Brians.”
• “Tom Minehart Karaoke” will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge.

Sunday
• A pancake breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Donations will be accepted for Senior Resources.
• The American Legion will have a post breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, sausage, fruit, potatoes, scrambled eggs, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Cost is $7.
