Albert Lea named Kevin Armbrust as its new head football coach on Wednesday, according to a press release from athletic director Chris Chalmers.

The following is a Q&A with coach Armbrust, who will take over after former head coach Max Jeffrey resigned in December.

 

Q: What is your coaching experience?

A: I’ve been the head football coach at Onamia High School for the past five seasons. I have a record of 30-17 as a head coach. Prior to that, I was a defensive coordinator for one year and a varsity assistant for two years.

 

Q: What college did you attend?

A: I went to college at Concordia College in Moorhead. I played for two seasons under Terry Horan, and I graduated Cum Laude.

 

Q: When did you decide you wanted to start coaching?

A: I don’t know exactly when I decided I wanted to start coaching, but I spent the 2006 season as an assistant with the Hawley Nuggets. After being with that staff for one season, I had a renewed passion for coaching and high school football — it’s fair to say it started for me at that point.

 

Q: What sports have you coached?

A: Football and baseball. I’ve also directed several plays.

 

Q: What is your favorite part of coaching?

A: My favorite part of coaching is seeing my players come to the realization that they are the ones determining their future.

 

Q: What is your favorite professional team to follow?

A: I’m a Vikings fan.

 

Q: Have you been to Albert Lea?

A: I have been to Albert Lea a few times. I’m impressed by all that the community has to offer. The people I’ve met have shown a strong commitment to the students and great pride in their schools. I am excited to be a part of it.
