Matt Carlson won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Carter Dahl and Collin Jahnke won 6-4, 6-2 and Garrett Matz and Foster Otten won 5-7, 7-6 and 11-9 in a super tiebreaker to win at No. 2 doubles.

Cole Keyeski bounced back from being shut out in the first set at No. 2 singles by winning the second set 6-4. He lost the third set 6-4.

“Of course, we would have liked to pull out a couple of those matches, but I’m very impressed with the way our guys compete,” said Albert Lea coach Tom Dyrdal. “They give 100 percent each time we take the court. I’ve really enjoyed coaching this group of guys.”

Against state-ranked Rochester Mayo, Albert Lea won the match at No. 2 doubles. Matz and Otten won 6-3 and 6-4.

“The match of the day was at No. 2 doubles,” Dyrdal said. “Otten and Matz have developed into a really tough doubles team. They know how to compete, and they always seem to be having fun on the court.”

Dyrdal said he was impressed with Taylor Herfindahl’s performance at No. 1 singles.

“It’s been really fun watching Taylor Herfindahl,” Dyrdal said. “He’s a great player. Every match he accepts the challenge of playing the top players in the conference.”

Next, Albert Lea will play at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Big Nine Conference Tournament at Rochester Outdoor Tennis Center.
