The Albert Lea girls’ golf team rebounded from a one-stroke loss Monday against Rochester Mayo during the Big Nine Conference Tournament Thursday at Owatonna Country Club.
The Tigers defeated the Spartans and took fourth place at the tournament and fourth place in the conference standings, said Albert Lea coach Shawn Riebe.
Chelsey Battle led the Tigers by finishing the 18-hole, par-72 course in 87 strokes. Her score was fifth-best at the tournament.
“Chelsey had a great round today,” Riebe said. “Her season scoring average earned her All-Conference honors.”
Samantha Nielsen completed the course in 100 strokes to take Albert Lea’s No. 2 spot. Cammy Tewes was No. 3 with a score of 104 and Mady Dahl took the final scoring spot with a 108.
Riebe said he hopes his team can produce even better scores by eliminating putting inconsistencies.
“We had some really impressive stretches of play, but the consistency is again evident,” he said. “We seem to putt well at practice — and we do a lot of it — but it doesn’t seem to transfer to the course. Hopefully, we get some confidence and consistency for the section tournament on Tuesday.”
