The United South Central baseball team showed promise for a postseason run with a 2-0 victory Monday at Mankato Loyola.
“It was a big win for us,” said USC coach Pat Frank.
Trevor Stencel went the distance on the mound for the Rebels. He struck out two batters and allowed four hits and two walks.
Grant Becher led USC at the plate. He was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Trevor Stencel and Dylan Herman each had doubles and Colin Wegner drove in a run.
USC (10-5 overall) is the No. 4 seed in Section 2A South, and Mankato Loyola (11-4 overall) is the No. 2 seed.
The two teams could have a rematch in the subsection finals.
USC will need to beat No. 5-seed Martin County West in the first round at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wells.
The last time the Rebels and Mavericks met was during the 2011-12 season, and Martin County West won 2-0. The year before that, USC beat the Mavericks 3-2.
