Tigers compete at state tourney site

After moving from Class AAA to Class AA this season, the Albert Lea girls’ golf team got a taste of what the new state tournament course is like.
The Tigers finished sixth out of 11 teams at the Jordan Invitational Friday and Saturday at The Ridges at Sand Creek golf course.
Albert Lea was in fourth place after Day 1 with a score of 388. Mady Dahl led the Tigers with a score of 90, and Samantha Nielsen shot a 83.
On Day 2, lightning shortened the outing to nine holes and Albert Lea finished in 201 strokes.
“This was a fantastic tourament with many of the Class AA teams participating,” said Albert Lea coach Shawn Riebe. “We look forward to going back to play next year.”
Detroit Lakes won the tournament by 40 strokes, Riebe said.
Next, Albert Lea will host a triangular against Mankato West and Owatonna at 2:30 p.m. today at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
