Tigers take 6th place at home golf invitational

The Albert Lea boys’ golf team beat five state-ranked teams to finish in the top half of the 16-team field Saturday on Day 2 of Albert Lea High School Invitational at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.

After shooting a 309 Friday at Green Lea Golf Course, the Tigers finished the invite with a score of 316 to take sixth place.

Sam Chalmers led Albert Lea on Day 2 with a score of 74. Team captain Lucas Peterson finished the course in 77 strokes. Alex Syverson shot an 82, Brent Nafzger an 83, Adam Syverson an 89 and Brady Loch a 90.

Jack Pulley led the Tigers’ JV team by posting an 82.

Wayzata completed the 36-hole tournament in 595 strokes to beat Lakeville South by 10 strokes and take first place. The top four teams were ranked in the Minnesota State Golf Association’s top 10. Andover — ranked No. 5 in the Class AAA polls by the Minnesota State Golf Coaches Association — finished one stroke ahead of the Tigers to take fifth place.

Ranked teams Albert Lea beat were Stillwater, New Ulm, Rogers, Forest Lake and Rochester Century.
