Albert Lea Legion splits against Redhawks

The Albert Lea Legion Post 56 baseball team stayed at .500 Wednesday by splitting a doubleheader against the Rochester Redhawks at Hayek Field.
In Game 1, Albert Lea fought back from a three-run deficit to win 10-7.
Taylor Heavner took the win on the mound. He struck out one batter and allowed eight walks and seven runs in 5 2/3 innings. Tristin Muilenburg entered the game in relief and didn’t allow a hit.
Albert Lea had 10 hits. Wyatt Paulsen, Makael Lunning, Jake Thompson and Sam Moyer each had two. Paulsen and Moyer also had two RBIs.
“Hits carried us that game, and we didn’t make a lot of errors,” said Albert Lea coach Jay Enderson.
Post 56 answered Rochester’s three-run second inning with two in the bottom of the inning and five in the third.
Albert Lea extended its lead to six runs in the fourth, but the Redhawks cut their deficit to two in the sixth. Albert Lea tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth, and held Rochester scoreless in the seventh. Paulsen caught a flyout in right field for the first out and Makael Lunning snagged a pair in center field for the last two outs to preserve the win.
In Game 2, the Redhawks scored six runs in the third inning to win 6-0.
Post 56 managed two hits on Rochester’s Jackson Douglas, who played for Mayo in the spring.
Johnathan Fleek took the loss for Albert Lea. In 2 2/3 innings, he struck out two batters and allowed two earned runs and a walk. Parker Mullenbach and Sam Moyer also pitched.
Next, Albert Lea (4-4 overall) will play Saturday at its home round-robin tournament. Post 56 will play New Richland at 11 a.m. and Medford at 4:30 p.m.
