Lake Mills baseball team splits games at tournament

The Lake Mills baseball team split two games of its home tournament Saturday against Northwood-Kensett and St. Ansgar.
The Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 1-0 North Iowa Conference) defeated Northwood-Kensett 11-1 by amassing 12 hits and only allowing two.
Matt Scholbrock of Lake Mills was the winning pitcher of the five-inning game.
Four Bulldogs had two hits: Lincoln Boehmer, Luke Kayser, Landon Abele and Mateo Peña. Abele had a game-high three RBIs.
Lake Mills matched their hit total with 12 stolen bases. Matt Throne and Peña led the Bulldogs with three each, and Luke Kayser and Peter Hagenson had two.
Against St. Ansgar, Lake Mills led 2-0 after the third inning, but St. Ansgar scored five unanswered runs in the final four innings to win 5-2.
Josh Peters led Lake Mills with a hit and two runs scored. He also took the loss on the mound, despite retiring seven batters and allowing seven hits and three walks in seven innings.
Next, the Bulldogs will play at 7:30 p.m. today at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.
