Weekend Planner: Corey Goodnature Golf Classic scholarship fundraiser returns for 9th year

The ninth annual Corey Goodnature Scholarship Golf Classic will be Saturday, with events going on throughout the entire day.

The day starts at 11 a.m. with the opening of the silent auction. Some of the items being auctioned off are autographed race jackets from Danica Patrick and Clint Bowyer, Minnesota Lynx tickets, Twins tickets at the home plate terrace, a Coach purse, a signed Blackhawks picture from the 2013 Stanley Cup, a Kansas City Nascar Experience VIP for this October and more.

At 12:30 p.m. the opening ceremonies with color guard will begin. The scholarship recipients will be recognized at this time. There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m. a grilled pork chop supper provided by the Freeborn County Pork Producers will begin. Cost for the meal is $10. This is also when the silent auction bidding will end. A live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Last year, Kathy Dimit, Jean Pestorious and Rich Ackland were the golf tournament winners.

The tournament and activities will be at Green Lea Golf Course, 101 E. Richway Drive.

 

Friday

• Enjoy art and flowers with the Art & Garden tour. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Albert Lea Convention and Visitor’s Bureau or any of the homes on the tour. The homes will be open 4-7 p.m. The homes are the Twedts at 301 Lloyd Place, the Buboltzes at 305 Lloyd Place, the Westlands at 1660 S. Broadway Ave., the Seegers at 300 North Lane and the Garbischs at 72415 Grey Fawn Drive.

• See the sights of Albert Lea Lake on a Pelican Breeze II pizza cruise from 6 to 7:30 p.m. starting at Frank Hall Park. Reservations must be made by 4 p.m. Cost is $20 per person and spots can be reserved by calling 507-383-7273.

• Get a taste of London theater with National Theatre Live’s “A Small Family Business” at 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway Ave. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students.

• Angel Val and Randy Barnette will give a free show from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Big Island Bar & Grille courtyard.

 

Saturday

• The adult coed sand volleyball tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. at Snyder Field at Bridge Avenue and Hershey Street. There is an $85 team fee and paybacks are based on number of teams participating.

• Enjoy art and flowers with the Art & Garden tour. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Albert Lea Convention and Visitor’s Bureau or any of the homes on the tour. The homes will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Experience a blast from the past with the Freeborn County Historical Museum’s Vintage Style Show. The show will be 9:30 a.m. to noon at First Lutheran Church, 301 W. Clark St. There will be no ticket sales at the door.

• A wine tasting sponsored by Tee It Up for Campers for True Friends begins at 6 p.m. at Cobb Creek Vinyards, 62112 285th St., Wells.

• The Young Swedish Singers will be in concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 301 W. Clark St. There is no admission charge to this event.

Sunday

• Enjoy breakfast at the American Legion from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at 142 N. Broadway Ave. Pancakes, sausage, fruit cups, potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without diced ham, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $7.

• The Pelican Breeze II public cruise will sail at 1:30 p.m. from Frank Hall Park. Attendees must be at the boat by 1:15 p.m. A minimum of 10 passengers is required for the cruise to sail. Cost is $10 per person.
