Early deficits hinder Albert Lea Legion in doubleheader at Faribault

In its regular season finale, the Albert Lea Legion Post 56 baseball team missed a chance to host its first-round game in the District 1 tournament.
Albert Lea (9-8 overall, 5-7 District 1) was swept by Faribault 8-6 in Game 1 and 7-2 in Game 2 of a doubleheader Monday on the road.
Post 56 struggled early in both games with a 5-0 deficit in the second inning of Game 1 and a 6-0 deficit through three innings in Game 2.
“We came out flat and got down early,” said Albert Lea coach Jay Enderson. “We’ve got to rebound with our first playoff game on Tuesday.
Coach Enderson said the district brackets with game times have not been released.
Chris Enderson led Albert Lea from the mound in Game 1. He pitched 4 1/3 innings, struck out one batter and allowed five hits and three walks.
Kole Smith and Makael Lunning led Post 56 with two hits each.
In Game 2, Jake Kilby led Albert Lea from the mound. He pitched 4 2 /3 innings, struck out four batters and allowed six hits and two walks.
Makael Lunning led Albert Lea’s offense and was the only Albert Lea batter to muster multiple hits. He was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
