NEW ULM — The New Ulm Popcorn Wagon turned a century old in style this weekend.

The wagon mostly did what it does best — pop and sell popcorn — during the commemoration at the Brown County Historical Society.

According to the society, Myers Jorgenson of Rochester invested $1,500 in the horse-drawn popcorn wagon and set it up at the corner of Center and Minnesota Street in New Ulm. It was powered by a 1 1/2 horsepower steam engine.

The Brown County Historical Society later rebuilt the bright red wagon and uses it to sell popcorn on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. when the weather is agreeable.

The heat for corn popping, roasting peanuts and powering the wagon lights now comes from gasoline generators.
