The annual April Sorensen Memorial Half Marathon is this Saturday, carrying on a tradition of running in memory of the Albert Lea High School graduate.
Sorensen was murdered in her Rochester home in 2007. Sorensen’s family decided to put together this marathon to memorialize her as she loved athletics and running.
This year’s race starts at 7:30 a.m. from the Albert Lea Country Inn & Suites, 2214 E. Main St. The marathon heads towards Hayward.
No bikes, rollerblades, pets or strollers are allowed. However, walkmans and MP3 players are allowed this year.
The marathon is open to all men and women who are trained for a 13.1-mile foot race. Race officials may disqualify any runner for inappropriate behavior.
Runners who need medical assistance will be removed from the race after estimation by medical staff.
The race course closes at 11 a.m.
