Weekend Planner: Community Sew Day all set
Published 10:06 am Thursday, August 7, 2014
Community Sew Day will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Albert Lea Senior Center at Skyline Plaza.
Various projects — such as quilts, paint smocks, hats, mittens, personal care bags, tissue covers and pillowcases — will be completed and later donated.
In past years, quilts were donated to Minnesota Teen Challenge, dresses were donated to Jamaica and baby bibs and aprons were sent to Colombia.
Attendees can stay the whole day or come for as long as they can.
Attendees must bring their own sewing machine, scissors, pins and a sack lunch.
Sewing kits for various projects will be provided, as well as beverages and cookies.
Community Sew Day is part of AZ-One’s Shinefest 2014, where members of Albert Lea’s faith community come together to do community service projects. Some activities that they usually do are Rock the Block and the Shinefest tractor ride, which happened last month.
