Albert Lea rallies past Northfield

The Albert Lea volleyball team picked up its first Big Nine Conference win Tuesday with a rally at Northfield.
After facing elimination with a loss in Game 3, the Tigers reeled off a pair of wins to beat the Raiders 3-2.
Game scores were 15-25, 25-21, 16-25, 28-26 and 15-8.
“The last set (game) and a half were the best volleyball we have played in the last three years,” said Albert Lea coach Lisa Deyak. “It was nice to see all the hard work of these girls coming to fruition.”
Hope Landsman led Albert Lea at the net with 15 kills. Kassi Hardies added 11 kills and seven blocks, and Taylor Willis had eight kills and six blocks.
Setter Julia Deyak posted a team-high 47 assists to go with 11 digs.
Camryn Keyeski was solid on the back row and at the net. She led the Tigers with 30 digs to go with nine kills. Kass Jansen added 22 digs.
“Our receiving, serving, passing, setting, attacking and blocking was strong,” coach Deyak said. “It was a lot of fun and a great team effort.”
Albert Lea (2-6 overall, 1-3 Big Nine Conference) knocked off the Raiders (4-8 overall, 2-2 Big Nine Conference) after Northfield beat Mankato West (5-5 overall, 3-1 Big Nine Conference) 3-1 on Thursday.
Next, the Tigers will play at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Rochester John Marshall. The Rockets (3-1 overall, 3-0 Big Nine Conference) are tied with Rochester Mayo for the top spot in the conference standings.
