Weekend Planner: Bolan, Iowa, gets hopping with market

The 12th annual Bolan Fall Market will have events beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday in Bolan, Iowa.

The Bolan Schoolhouse and Cultural Center will have a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. Donations will be accepted.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a United Methodist Women’s Bazaar. There will be coffee, a bake sale, produce and crafts at the bazaar.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a United Methodist Women’s lunch. Food served will be scalloped potatoes and ham, homemade coleslaw, fresh baked bread with jam, bars and cookies.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Bolan community will serve homemade pie with ice cream.

At 1 p.m. there will be a panel of guest speakers for a railroad program. Russell Rosenberg, a 1945 Bolan section crew member; Donald Pinkele, grandson of station master Samual Gearhart; Richard Hynes, Manly railroad historian; and Tom Beck, Phil Erdmann and Don Kenison, or the Bolan Boys, will share railroad history.

Registration for a bike ride will be at 8 a.m., and the ride leaves at 9 a.m. The ride travels through Carpenter, Grafton and St. Ansgar.

Music by Sam Crosser will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and Betsy Kirby from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday

ReVoiced will give a concert at 7 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School auditorium, 2000 Tiger Lane. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students.

 

Saturday

Find some fresh produce, baked goods and more at the Albert Lea Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to noon at the Northbridge Mall parking lot, 2510 Bridge Ave.

A salad luncheon, bake sale, craft sale and produce sale will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Church, 15554 690th Ave. Cost is $6 for adults, $2 for children and free for preschool-aged children.

The Upper Midwest Power Boat Assocation Fountain Lake Powerboat Drag Races will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Edgewater Bay.

A benefit rib dinner for a music camp named for Jessica Lokken will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 301 W. Clark St. Tickets are $10, $6 for the pizza option. Tickets are available at First Lutheran Church, Stadheim Jewelers or The Lofts at Lea Center office.

The Freeborn County Pheasant & Habitat banquet will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Freeborn County 4-H building. Cost is $20. Ticket price includes a meal and a chance for one of 10 grand prizes.

Enjoy swing dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. at Prairie Wind Coffee, 211 S. Broadway.

 

Sunday

The Couples Executive Best Ball Tournament will begin at 11 a.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club, 2200 W. Ninth St. Entry fee per couple is $60 or $20 with a season pass holder. Fees include cart and range balls.

Amaranth pancakes, eggs, sausages, juice, milk and coffee will be served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 147 N. Broadway, with a suggested donation of $7.

Trinity Lutheran Church of New Richland will have its annual meatball dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 First St. N.W. Cost is $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 5 to 9 and free for children age 4 or younger.

The Freeborn County Historical Museum’s Autumn in the Village will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the museum, 1031 Bridge Ave. Entry is $7.50 for adults, $2 for students and free for children age 11 and under.
