Another National Theatre Live performance is coming to Albert Lea in the form of “Medea.”
The Albert Lea Community Theatre streams performances by the Metropolitan Opera from New York City and National Theatre Live from London, and in November they will start showing ballet performances by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow.
“Medea” will be shown on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.
“Medea,” a new version by Ben Power, is adapted from Euripides’ tragedy of the same name. Medea is a wife and mother who leaves her homeland and is exiled because of it. She bears two sons to her husband, Jason, but he leaves his family for a new life.
Facing banishment and separation from her children, Medea asks for one day’s grace.
In that one day, Medea exacts revenge and destroys everything in her life she holds dear.
Helen McCrory takes the title role of Medea. The play is directed by Carrie Cracknell and the music was written by Will Gregory and Alison Goldfrapp.
Tickets to the show are $20 for adults and $12 for students. Half of the ticket prices support Albert Lea Community Theatre. “Medea” is rated for attendants age 15 and older.
Tickets can be purchased online at actonbroadway.com or at the box office an hour before the show begins.
Coming next to National Theatre Live’s broadcasting is Frankenstein, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Creature on Oct. 31 and Jonny Lee Miller as Creature on Nov. 1.
