After a competitive first quarter, the Albert Lea football team was outscored by four touchdowns in the second en route to a 59-14 loss Friday at Mankato East.
Tim Christianson led the Tigers’ backfield with 58 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Dylan Lestrud added three carries for 15 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 26 yards.
Lestrud was one of several players who stepped in for injured Albert Lea players.
“We were out several starters, so we had a lot of guys new to positions on both sides of the ball,” said Tigers coach Kevin Armbrust.
Along with Lestrud, Armbrust mentioned that Scott Gryzbowski, Tanner Palmer and Justin Christenson-Severtson filled gaps.
Gryzbowski filled in for Dominic Fadden at center, and he never fumbled on the exchange with quarterback Jake Kilby.
Kilby rushed 18 times for 52 yards, and he was 5-of-9 through the air for 44 yards.
Christianson led the Tigers defensively with seven solo tackles and one assist. Tristan Johnston added five solo tackles and two assists.
Mankato East improved to 3-4 overall and has won three of its last four games.
Next, Albert Lea (0-7 overall) will host Red Wing (1-6 overall) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Red Wing’s only victory was a 21-7 home win against Winona on Sept. 5. Since then, the Wingers have lost five straight.
