Barkley “Buck” Gifford Omans died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014. He was 94 years old. He is now reunited with Ruth, his wife of 60 years.

He leaves behind his children Carole and Bradford Anderson, James and Diane Omans, Judson and Susan Omans and John and Nadine Omans; one sister; and eight grandchildren.

Buck was born in Newago, Mich. He grew up with four sisters. He served in World War II. After the war, he married Ruth Nyboer, graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in civil engineering and had a career in city management.

He was the city manager of Buchanan, Mich.; Albert Lea and Golden Valley.

Buck’s focus in life was his family, his faith and his friends. He and Ruth lovingly raised their children and enjoyed keeping in close contact with their eight grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

They liked to travel and had many wonderful traveling adventures together. Faith and church were an important part of Buck’s life. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in La Crosse, Wis.

A family celebration of his life and burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
