Georgianna Roberts, 84, of Wells died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, in Yorktown, Va., at the home of her son, Karl Roberts.
“I have fought a good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. I am going home.” The family asked the Lord to heal her or take her home, and the Lord said, “Come on home, Georgie. I have this mansion for you. I know you will be pleased. Stand tall and walk through the gate.” So on a beautiful Sunday Georgie did just that. She was led through that gate by her husband, Corvin; son, Donald (standing and walking tall); and her father and mother George and Lucille Batt and was given to the Lord.
Georgianna was born June 8, 1930, to George and Lucille (Cook) Batt in Omaha. They moved to Iowa where they lived until they moved to Hartland and took up farming.
Georgianna was the valedictorian for the 1948 Freeborn High School graduating class in Freeborn.
On Aug. 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Corvin Roberts in Wells where they made their home. To this union they raised four children, Georgette (Kenny) Bauman, Karl (Toni) Roberts, Nola Roberts and Donald Roberts.
Georgiana was a member of United Methodist Church in Wells. At one time she taught Sunday school. She was active in the church circle and loved their friendships. She was an avid reader, enjoyed camping, eating out and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Earlier in her marriage she was a stay at home mother and took in sewing. She then spent many years working for Mussers, Stampers, Banquet, ConAg, Blue Coach and Swift Eckrich until the plant closed in Wells. She retired at 74.
Georgiana was preceded in death by her husband, Corvin, after more than 60 years of marriage; her youngest son, Donald; and her parents George and Lucille Batt.
Georgiana is survived by three children, Georgette (Kenneth) Bauman of Andover, Karl (Toni) Roberts of Yorktown and Nola Robert of Ellendale; siblings Donald (Glenda) Batt of Hartland and Allen (Gai) Batt of Hartland; five grandchildren, Kevin (Shannon) Bauman of Maple Grove, Kristine (Will) Mraz of Wyoming, Jeremy Roberts of Owatonna, Karl (Connie) Roberts of Poquoson, Va., and Kelcey (Brandon) Williams of Newport News, Va.; and seven great-grandchildren, Travis Mraz of Duluth, Addyson and Wyatt Mraz of Wyoming, Cameron and Skylar Bauman of Maple Grove and Elyssa and Emma Roberts of PoQuoson, Va. She loved them all deeply.
A celebration of life will be at a later date in Wells at United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers Georgianna requested donations be made to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. All cards may be sent to Karl Roberts, 317 Patriot Way, Yorktown, VA 23693.
Finally, Mother wanted to say to everyone how much she enjoyed her life in good and bad times. To remember family is family no matter what, talk to and love each other, say you’re sorry and make up before it’s too late. Goodbye, see you all soon!
