A second-half turnaround gave the Alden-Conger boys’ basketball a win in its season opener for the first time since 2010.
After erasing a 15-point first-half deficit, the Knights outscored Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman 45-14 in the second half during a 76-52 victory Friday at Northrup.
“It was the tale of two halves,” said Alden-Conger Bob Hansen. “It’s all about confidence, and it’s nice to see it grow. We chipped away and got a little momentum.”
Once the Knights took the lead, they never relinquished it, Hansen said.
As a team, the Knights shot 49 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arc.
“Most of our points came from layups and taking it to the basket,” Hansen said. “That opened up the outside.”
Seniors Eli Hallman and Colton Opsahl led Alden-Conger’s offense. Hallman posted a team-high 25 points, and he hit 3-of-5 three point attempts. He also had four rebounds, three steals and a block. Opsahl added 20 points, five rebounds, an assist and three steals.
Jacob Wallin led the Knights on the block with eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
