On the heels of a record-setting season for the Lake Mills volleyball team, assistant coach Ree Pederson-Moore caught the eye of the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association.
Pederson-Moore will be honored as Assistant Coach of the Year at the IGCA awards luncheon on Nov. 22 in Carroll, Iowa.
Lake Mills finished the season with a 46-4 overall record, which was the most wins in school history.
“Ree moved into the roll as one of our volunteer coaches this year after 16 seasons as our freshmen coach, and we felt fortunate that we were able to keep her on staff,” said Lake Mills coach Jim Boehmer. “The success of our program is in part to a great group of assistant coaches.”
Boehmer said Pederson-Moore does the little things that make her players feel special and help build team unity.
“The additional duties Ree completes for us is the amazing part,” he said. “She puts together our team booklet at the end of the year and organizes individual prizes for every member of our team. She finds small prizes that match something unique about each player.”
Along with assisting Boehmer in his coaching of the Bulldogs, Pederson-Moore works as a daycare provider and preschool teacher. She also coaches the fourth- through sixth-grade volleyball team.
“Ree loves to be involved in our youth program,” said Boehmer. “She shows as much passion for that as she does for the varsity, and the kids love it. Ree’s passion for the game is amazing, and her passion for the kids of Lake Mills is unmatched.”
Pederson-Moore joins fellow assistant coach Donna Ellingson as recipients of the award.
“It signifies all the time energy and effort all of our assistant coaches have put into the program,” Bohemer said. “We are very fortunate to have the assistant coaching staff we have.”
