4 injured in crash on icy I-35

Four people were injured Thursday night after a sport-utility vehicle rolled over on an icy portion of Interstate 35 in southern Albert Lea.

Three of the people were transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, while the fourth was treated at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol deemed all of the injuries not life-threatening.

The report stated Curtis W. Pearson, 23, of Spooner, Wis., was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer northbound on I-35 near Exit 8 — the intersection with U.S. Highway 65 — just after 8 p.m. when he lost control of the automobile.

The Explorer went into the median and rolled. Peterson was injured but was not taken to the hospital.

His wife, Jessica A. Pearson, 24, of Spooner; mother, Teresa Pearson, 52, of Spooner; and relative John Nesbitt, 54, city unknown, were taken to the hospital.

The report stated Curtis Peterson was wearing his seat belt, but it is unknown if the passengers were wearing theirs.

No alcohol was detected, and the Explorer was totaled.

The Albert Lea Police Department and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
