Betty Viktora

Betty died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous two-year and 10-month battle with cancer.

Betty Ann Viktora was born June 4, 1940, in Spring Valley, the daughter of Chester Charles and Erma Mae (Howard) Hahn. She grew up on the family farm north of Spring Valley. Betty graduated from Spring Valley High School. In the early 1950s she played guitar with the Roy Lilly TV Show, and they called her the yodeler.

On March 15, 1958, Betty was united in marriage to Dale Eugene Viktora at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley. The couple made their home in Hollandale where they raised their six children. Betty worked extremely hard to be the best homemaker and mother she could be to her family. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she was an active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and WCCW Ladies Group of St. Mary’s where she served in several offices. She loved dancing with Dale and her family, especially polka dancing. Betty also enjoyed having coffee with friends and family, hosting family get-togethers and playing cards with Dale. Most of all, Betty enjoyed time spent with her family. Her grandchildren will always remember her for her cookies! She was a strong woman and always accepted what came her way and never complained.

Survivors include her husband, Dale “Genie”; children Gary (Jolene) Viktora of Ellendale, Jerry (Shelley) Viktora of Ellendale, Debra (Lucas Jr.) Luna of Hollandale, Kevin (Marcy) Viktora of Oakland, Kenneth (Alisa)Viktora of Austin and Julie (Troy) Olson of Oakland; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. She was the last survivor of her family.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund.

A special thank you to the Albert Lea oncology department and to all of her friends and family for their prayers and support.
