Funeral services for Jan T. Reed, 78, of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church. Capt. Jim Brickson will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors accorded by members of the American Legion and VFW honor guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.
Jan died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at his home.
Jan Thomas Reed was born Aug. 2, 1936, in St. Louis, the son of Arthur H. and Julia A. (Rowe) Reed. He grew up and went to school in Glenville and graduated from Northwood High School. He attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
On Nov. 11, 1956, Jan was united in marriage to Darlene Lorraine Jensen at First Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed at Sandia Base in Albuquerque. Jan was the owner/operator of Hi-Yield Products since 1969 with plants in Alden and Hartland. Jan was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army, the Freeborn County Planning and Zoning Board, the Shellrock 4-H Club and FFA. In his spare time Jan loved to play golf. He also enjoyed going to bluegrass music festivals.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children Vicki (Bill) Williams of Albert Lea, Anne (Dave) Hanson of Lake Mills, Renae (Dale) Himrich of Rochester, Kevin (Brenda) Reed of Albert Lea and Kyle (Jodie) Reed of Hartland; grandchildren Kerri (Lee) Kuiters, Kim Gaskill, Wendi (Christopher) Smith, Tami Gaskill, Scott (Jenna) Gaskill, Gina (Jay) Schneider, Stephanie Williams, Kayla (Ryan) Langhans, Tabitha (Kyle) Hofmeister, Stacie (Ryne) Christner, Cole (Rebecca Vehrenkamp, Weston (Miranda) Williams, Alysa (David) Miller, Ethan Reed, Jake Reed, Madison Reed, Austin Himrich and Noelle Himrich; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Julia Reed.
