Tribune should have apologized

In reference to the correction printed Dec. 9 in the Albert Lea Tribune:

Although I appreciate that the Tribune printed a correction about the tragic accident that happened to Ms. Helen Allen and her grandson. I was disappointed in the lack of information in the correction. The correction lists the make and model of the car, the victim’s name, and the perpetrator’s name, but fails to print an official apology to the man who was listed in the first Albert Lea Tribune article as hitting the poor woman with his car.

That man, Thomas J. Crim, witnessed the accident and stopped to care for both the woman and her distressed grandson. He comforted both and looked to administer first aid, then waited with them until police and help arrived. Thomas was then rewarded for this behavior by being listed in the paper as the one who actually hit the woman.

Although I appreciate that everyone can make a mistake, I believe that one makes up for a mistake with an apology. The police report that was given to the Tribune was factual and accurate. The error belonged to the Albert Lea Tribune and they should print both an accurate correction and a public apology to Thomas Crim.
