50 years ago: 1965
• The New Richland basketball team defeated Waldorf-Pemberton 78-58 with five players scoring in double figures. The Cardinals were led by Dennis Kofstad with 15 points, Tom Greenwood and Dwight Casper with 13 points each, and Perry Haugen and Bruce Babcock with 10 points each.
• Bob Helgeson scored 16 points and Bob Lande, 13, to lead Lake Mills to a 59-53 North Iowa Conference win over Osage.
• Emmons defeated Alden 59-44 in a Border League basketball game. The Eagles were led by Alan Rasmussen with 19 points, and Leon Emmons and John Lair with 13 points each. Dennis Thompson scored 15 points and Bob Hoeg, 14, for Alden.
25 years ago: 1990
• John Nelson was in goal for Albert Lea in its 6-0 shutout against Austin. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Mark Erlandson, 2, Anders Larson, Jason Studier, Steve Hebert and Justin Matson.
• Winners in the Albert Lea Women’s 600 Bowling Tournament were the following: high game, Fern Possin; high actual series, Virginia Hanson.
• The NRHEG boys’ basketball team improved its Gopher Conference record to 4-1 after defeating Blooming Prairie 66-24. The Panthers were led by Tyler Peterson with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
• In its first win of the season, South Central defeated Ceylon 51-49. John Goette scored 14 points and Bill Haukoos, 13, for South Central.
10 years ago: 2005
• The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team defeated Austin 9-3 for its 10th straight win. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Jon Breuer, 3, Quinn Ellingson, 2, Tony Dugstad, 2, Dustin Trail and Beau Larson, 1 each. The win raised the Tigers’ season record to 14-1.
• NRHEG won the consolation title in the St. Clair Girls’ Holiday Basketball Tournament. After a first-round loss, the Panthers defeated Blue Earth Area 55-41 with Alison Anderson scoring 21 points and Traci Nelson, 13. In the final round, the Panthers defeated Canby 54-35. Emily Hagen scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds, and Anderson added 16 points for NRHEG.
• Hali Hendrickson scored 12 points for the Albert Lea girls’ basketball team in its 44-38 win over Mankato East.
