Hartland bar holds its own

HARTLAND — Being the only bar or restaurant-type business in Hartland doesn’t phase Hartland University.

The bar, at 411 Broadway, has been operating under it’s current name for about 16 or 17 years under the ownership of Dan and Tara Harguth. Trish Lestrud, who has worked at the bar on and off since 1998, has been the manager for about a year.

Lestrud said the bar hasn’t seen much of a change in business since Village Inn — the only other restaurant in Hartland — closed its doors in December after owner Judy Hendrickson decided to retire and attempt to sell the building.

According to Lestrud, Hartland University gets a good mix of both local customers and those passing through the area. She said a lot of the smaller towns surrounding Hartland also support the business.

Right now the only food the bar offers is pizzas, for the time being. The bar’s hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The bar regularly has different events going on, Lestrud said. This weekend the bar will host the All BS Band at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Next weekend the bar will have a vintage snowmobile run Feb. 14, and the following weekend there will be a snowmobile fun run and a dart tournament Feb. 21.

Lestrud said the people who come into the bar are her favorite part of the job. She likes and prefers the small town atmosphere.

“It has that small town feeling,” she said. “I like that.”
