MINNETONKA — Authorities said a 35-year-old man was able to escape from his sinking truck after it went through the ice on Lake Minnetonka.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened Wednesday night in Lafayette Bay.
Lt. Kent Vnuk of the department’s Water Patrol unit said the man was heading to his fish house, which wasn’t a posted thin-ice area. He said the man was able to climb out of the truck, pull himself onto the ice and scream for help.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene after a neighbor called for help. Vnuk said four deputies formed a human chain and rescued the man. He was brought to shore and taken to a hospital.
Vnuk said the man’s dog couldn’t be rescued from the truck.
