Weekend Planner: ‘Of Mice and Men’ coming to Marion Ross Arts Center

National Theatre Live’s “Of Mice and Men” will come to Albert Lea this weekend.
“Of Mice and Men” will show at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 142 N. Broadway.
Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck’s classic novel hits the stage with James Franco and Chris O’Dowd filling the starring roles. Franco is a Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee, and O’Dowd is a Tony Award nominee.
The play also features Leighton Meester of “Gossip Girl” and Tony Award winning actor Jim Norton.
This production was nominated for two Tony Awards.
“Of Mice and Men” centers around George Milton and Lennie Small, displaced ranch workers who travel from place to place to find a job during the Great Depression.
Tickets for the play are $20 for adults and $12 for students.

• A flea market and craft sale fundraiser for Nation of Patriots will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club.
Saturday
• A flea market and craft sale fundraiser for Nation of Patriots will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club.
• The Trader Jacks sports and collectible show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.
• A cancer benefit for Albert Lea firefighter Brett Boss will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Burger basket dinner will be $8 and T-shirts will be on sale for $20. There will be a bake sale, raffle and auction as well. Call 377-4340, 383-1500 or 383-6218 for tickets.
Sunday
• Denny Brue’s pancake breakfast for Senior Resources will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Donations will be accepted.
• Breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eagles Club. Pancakes, eggs, sausages, biscuits and gravy, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Cost is $7.
• Breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Alden American Legion Club. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, milk, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $5, children under age 6 are free.
• A Lenten recital will begin at 3 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church.
