50 years ago: 1965
• Winners in the Albert Lea women’s bowling tournament included the following: singles, Burrie Jacobson, who also had the high game in the tournament at 243; doubles, Lavonne Kuchera and Iris Satre; all-events straight away, Norma Haney; and all-events (handicap), Jacobson.
• In the first game of the section playoff in Iowa, the Northwood basketball team defeated Allison 69-58. The Vikings were led by Gary Christianson with 18 points, and Glen Kittleson and Kary Paulson with 15 points each. The Vikings also won the semifinal game over North Central of Manly 69-61. Tom Nelson had 19 points and Gary Grundmeier, 18, for Northwood.
• The Albert Lea basketball team was defeated by Austin 86-75. Jim Bratvold scored 29 points for the Tigers.
25 years ago: 1990
• Results in the Albert Lea women’s city bowling tournament included the following: Class A, Crossword Trailer, team members were Phylis Bennett, Paula Bennett, Bev Twito and Dorothy Bennett; Class B, Copy Cats, team members were Jill Westney, Becky Hagen, Vickie Hise and Linda Scherff; all events straight away, Kathy Evenson; singles and handicap all events, Pat Johnson; doubles, Alice Petersen and Evie Mathies.
• The Albert Lea girls’ basketball team defeated Austin 34-31. Carla Zevenbergen scored 10 points for the Tigers.
• The South Central girls’ basketball team raised its season record to 16-1 after defeating Granada-Huntley-East Chain 56-40. Julie Meyer had 17 points, Jessica Hill had 14 and Missy Paulson had 16 rebounds for the Warriors.
10 years ago: 2005
• Joe Woelfel scored 16 points, including his 1,000 career point for Lake Mills in the Bulldogs’ 66-62 victory over North Kossuth. The Bulldogs’ season record improved to 15-5.
• Freshman Hali Hendrickson scored 19 points and had 15 rebounds for the Albert Lea girls’ basketball team in its 46-35 win against Austin.
• The NRHEG girls’ basketball team defeated Randolph 47-19. Traci Nelson had 17 points and Alison Anderson, 12, for NRHEG.
