MINNEAPOLIS — The end of Target’s Canadian operations has had a financial impact on small and medium businesses in Minnesota that supplied the retailer.

Target’s Canadian division filed for bankruptcy protection last month and owes nearly $5 million to suppliers and service providers in Minnesota.

Retail Merchandizing Services is among the suppliers. The Maple Grove company has stocked and maintained jewelry and sunglass displays at Target stores for decades. It followed Target into Canada where it hired 200 employees. The company’s president, Phil Lamers, said that was an investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
