To Cole and Katie Pestorious and family.

The Pestorious family was recognized on Tuesday as the 2015 Farm Family of the Year at the 10th annual Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Luncheon.thumb.up

Growing up with backgrounds in farming, the couple now farms corn and soybeans in an 80/20 rotation. In addition to farming, the family is involved with numerous community efforts, including the Freeborn County Corn and Soybean Growers Association, the Freeborn County Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Sibley Elementary School PTO and the Albert Lea FFA Alumni Association, to name a few.

We wish the Pestoriouses the best as they represent Freeborn County at the University of Minnesota Extension’s farm family recognition at Farm Fest in August.

To organizers of Experience Albert Lea.

There’s no doubt that the organizers of the new Experience Albert Lea initiative love the city, and we hope they find success in their goal to help better market Albert Lea — not only for visitors or people looking to move here but also for its own residents.thumb.up

We at the Tribune agree that Albert Lea is an amazing community with much to be proud of. It’s not everyday that you can find a community with great outdoor amenities, multiple lakes, access to fantastic education and the best community members you can imagine. Time after time we are just astounded to see how this community comes out to support each other. We know there are many other things in Albert Lea to be proud of as well.

We applaud anyone willing to stand out there and make our community a better place to live.

To injuries for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves are loaded with young talent, but injuries have kept the team from blossoming.thumb.down

After injuries to three of Minnesota’s five starters — Ricky Rubio, Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin — the hits kept coming. With Rubio, Pekovic, Anthony Bennett, Shabazz Muhammad, Gary Neal, Justin Hamilton and Robbie Hummel out for Thursday’s game at New York, the team needed to sign someone, anyone, to fulfill the league-mandated rule that each team must have eight players in uniform.

The Wolves signed guard Sean Kilpatrick to a 10-day contract. Kilpatrick only played 10 minutes and was 0-1 from the field. We hope the rest of the team can heal up and show improvement next year.
