Erliss Arlene Anderson Buss was born April 21, 1920, in a log house on the Tolef Anderson farm in Freeborn County. She passed away peacefully Jan. 27, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.
She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1938. She then attended and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield. She taught in a country school east of Austin before moving to Washington state.
There, she and Lyle Buss were married Oct. 9, 1942, in Port Orchard. During the war years she was a telephone operator while Lyle was at sea in the Navy. After the war they moved to Bellingham where she taught 25 years in the Meridian school district. During the Bellingham years they bought a portion of the Tolef Anderson farm. In 1997 they left Bellingham and built a new home on the family farm where they spent their retirement years.
Erliss enjoyed her family, church, flowers, gardening and being back on the farm where she grew up. The friends, neighbors and families of the farm community were an important part of her life.
She is survived by her son, Loren (Evelyn) Buss; granddaughters Lyla (Shon) Davis and Lorelyn Buss; great-granddaughters Kyla and Lyza; a brother, Richard (Lorraine) Anderson; sister in-law, Kathy Anderson; and many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents Guida and AWT Anderson; siblings Vernon, Helen and Pat; and this past October, her husband, Lyle.
Memorials may be sent to Round Prairie Lutheran Church.
