Joann Elaine (Nelson) Miller was born in Albert Lea to George E. and Myrtle C. (Morriem) Nelson. She attended Albert Lea High School and upon graduation she moved to Chicago.
After marrying she moved to Eugene, Oregon, where she raised her family — later living in Washougal, Washington, and Crane, Oregon — before settling in Bend, Oregon, over a year and a half ago.
Joann was an administrative assistant when she wasn’t running her horse ranch. In 1980 Joann served as president of Base Area No. 2 Hospital Guild Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene. She served as the president of the Oregon Quarter Horse Association from 1981 to 1982. She enjoyed modeling, quilting, making porcelain dolls, arts and crafts, horseback riding, buckaroos and her animals.
Joann is survived by her daughter, Kim (Phil) Kraemer, of Bend; her son, Michael (May) Edwards, of Monroe, Washington; her youngest daughter, Andrea (Randy) Osborne, of Truckee, California; sister, Helen (Bill) Garriott, of Merrill, Oregon; four grandchildren, Alex (Amanda) Loomis of Dallas, Katherine Loomis of Chicago, and Isaac and Mitchel Osborne of Truckee; and two step-granddaughters.
Joann is preceded in death by her parents George and Myrtle Nelson and brother, Paul Nelson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers who provided love and care to their mother, Joann. Memorial contributions may be made to Equine Outreach at www.equineoutreach.com or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
