Consistency from the mound and multiple hits by four batters lifted the Albert Lea baseball team to its fourth consecutive win.

Chris Enderson struck out eight batters and allowed one walk and one earned run to lead the Tigers to an 8-2 victory Tuesday at Faribault.

“Chris pitched an outstanding game,” said Albert Lea coach Joe Sczublewski. “He’s got command of the strike zone, is able to mix his pitches and at times throw overpowering stuff. It’s fun to see him get better with each outing.”

Parker Mullenbach, Tanner Bellrichard, Kole Smith and Mason Hammer led the Tigers at the plate with two hits each.

Albert Lea took a two-run lead in the top of the third. Jake Thompson hit a double and scored on a single by Alex Bledsoe. Bledsoe scored on a single by Mullenbach.

The Tigers extended their advantage in the top of the fourth.

Tanner Bellrichard led off with a single and stole second. He scored on a single by Sam Moyer. Kole Smith singled to score Moyer, and the bases were loaded when Thompson was hit by a pitch. The Tigers batted around the order and scored six runs in the inning, Sczublewski said.

Faribault scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and mounted a comeback. The Falcons had three consecutive hits when Tigers shortstop Jake Thompson dove into the grass to catch a blooper to left field. After the grab, Thompson found Alex Bledsoe at third base to pick off Faribault’s base runner and complete the double play.

“That’s what turned the tide,” Sczublewski said. “Had the ball fell, that looked like they would’ve had a big inning going. Thompson made a spectacular diving catch.”

Albert Lea completed a two-game regular-season sweep of Faribault. The Tigers won 4-3 in their season opener against the Falcons on April 11 at Hayek Field.

Next, Albert Lea (5-5, 4-4 Big Nine) will play at Mankato West (7-2, 5-2 Big Nine) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Scarlets are No. 2 in the conference standings, and their last four games have been decided by two runs or fewer.
