In only it’s second game of the season, the Albert Lea softball team matched last season’s regular-season total for games with 10 or more runs produced.
Kassi Hardies drilled three triples and went 4-for-5 at the plate as the Tigers won 15-7 Saturday at Faribault.
“Once she got her timing down, she was squaring up nice,” said Albert Lea coach Dan Harms. “She was getting nice level cuts and roping them off.”
The Tigers are 2-0 on the season after an 11-5 win Wednesday at Red Wing.
Records on Minnesota-Scores.net date back a decade, Albert Lea never started 2-0 during that span.
Hanna Schilling and Haley Harms shared time in the pitching circle. Schilling pitched the first 4 2/3 innings, and Harms finished the game in relief. Schilling struck out two batters and allowed six runs and three walks. Harms didn’t have any strikeouts but allowed no walks and one run.
All nine starters in the Tigers’ lineup had at least one hit. Taylor Thompson, Allison Grandstrand and Dayna Edwards had three hits each.
Edwards did not play in the opener, which was a day after her father’s funeral. Coach Harms said he was proud of her for finding the strength to play against Faribault.
“It didn’t seem like she missed a beat,” he said. “For her to come in as a ninth grader, it says a lot about her athleticism,” he said.
Next, Albert Lea will host Rochester Century in its home opener at 4:30 p.m. today.
