GENEVA —  Prom season is upon NRHEG once again.

All of the high school’s prom activities will take place May 2. The day will start with the grand march at 4 p.m. at the high school, where couples will walk around in prom attire for photos in the school’s gym.

Following the grand march, students will board buses for their dinner and dance at Wedgewood Cove in Albert Lea. After the dance participants will then be bused back to NRHEG for the school’s after prom, which is from 1 to 5 a.m. Students may leave the after prom early, but only after a parent or guardian has been called and has approved of them leaving early.

According to NRHEG after prom committee member Tammy Busho, it will be the 31st annual after prom. She said the concept of after prom was started by parents who wanted a safe evening for their children attending prom, and that Dan Nelson — who has helped put together all 30 prior after proms — is also helping with this year’s festivities.

The after prom will have a number of events, including casino games, bingo, a mechanical bull, arcade games and a photo booth, among others. There will be prize drawings as well as a horse race with possible cash prizes following breakfast.

Busho said the theme for this year’s prom is “A Touch of Class.” The prom is for juniors and seniors, but sophomores may attend if invited by upperclassmen. She said there are about 140 students who have reserved tickets. There is a $20 signup fee that pays for everything attendees will participate in, with the rest of the costs being paid for by after prom committee fundraisers. Busho said that everyone is encouraged to participate.

“We really want everyone participating,” she said,“Whether they have a date or not.”
