Pleasant weather helped the Albert Lea girls’ golf team shave 66 strokes from its previous team total during its second meet at Faribault Golf & Country Club.
The Tigers completed the course in 376 strokes to take second place Thursday in a triangular.
“It was nice to see our scores stay down and improve from the first time we played in Faribault during a snow storm,” said Albert Lea coach Shawn Riebe.
On April 10, the Tigers played their first meet of the season at the Faribault venue. Despite a 45-minute snow delay, 13 teams competed, and only three produced scores under 400.
In Thursday’s meet, Samantha Nielsen and Natalie Nafzger led Albert Lea with scores of 92. Nielsen cut eight strokes from her previous total, and Nafzger trimmed 30. Bailey Sandon added a 93, and Kayla Jensen, 99.
“This was a good round for us at a difficult course,” Riebe said. “The greens posed a problem for the girls today. They were dry, hard and fast. It took them a while to get used to them.”
Winona won the meet with a score of 342, and Faribault was third with a 435.
Next, Albert Lea (5-1 Big Nine) will compete at 9 a.m. Monday at Owatonna Country Club.
