Reeling from injuries, the Albert Lea softball team was swept in a doubleheader.
The Tigers lost 14-4 in Game 1 and 11-0 in Game 2 Thursday at Mankato East.
Albert Lea played without ace pitcher Haley Harms, who is done for the season with a broken ankle, and starting catcher Veronica Silva.
The duo was injured in a collision Tuesday during a 7-5 loss Tuesday at Owatonna.
In Game 1, the Tigers erased a two-run deficit home runs by Kassi Hardies and Taylor Thompson.
“That was the bright spot,” said Albert Lea coach Dan Harms. “Taylor’s birthday is (today), so that was a nice present for her.”
Although Harms, who had a .431 batting average, was out, the Tigers had three other batters who average over .400: Thompson, Hardies and Allison Grandstrand. However, the Tigers only managed three hits.
Albert Lea’s production was lean at the plate in Game 2 with one hit.
“Pitching for East was not dominating,” coach Harms said. “We just weren’t putting many quality at-bats together in either game.”
Hanna Schilling pitched both games for the Tigers. She faced 85 batters.
Next, Albert Lea (8-8, 4-5 Big Nine) will play at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Winona (9-7, 5-2 Big Nine).
