Weekend Planner: Albert Lea Floats returns to town with free activities

The Albert Lea Lakes Foundation presents Albert Lea Floats from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Frank Hall Park.

Albert Lea Floats is a free non-motorized floating festival that is open to the public. The event is sponsored by the Albert Lea Lakes Foundation, which is a non-profit group that raises awareness to restore and preserve natural resources such as the lake.

Free kayaks, canoes and paddleboards will be available for use. You can also bring your own vessels to share or for your own enjoyment.

There will be activities for children to enjoy if they would rather be on land. Free Seekers Wild Youth is putting on some adventure activities as well as a kiddie train and pickelball.

The Pelican Breeze will be having half-off rides at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. for $5. Merrill’s Popcorns, 112 on Broadway and Green Mill will serve food and beverages.

Friday 

The Samborie Motor Coach Rally will be at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

These are a Few of my Favorite Things art show will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Art Center. The show features original works of art, objects and family heirlooms.

Heart of the Heartland art show is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative.

West End Architectural Salvage is back from Des Moines from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Freeborn National Bank Building.

The Pelican Breeze II pizza cruise leaves at 6 p.m. from Frank Hall Park. Cost is $20. Ten reservations are needed for the Breeze to leave. Call 507-383-7273 to reserve your spot.

The Girl Singers of the Hit Parade will perform music from the most-loved female vocalists of all time. The show is at 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Albert Lea YMCA, Parks and Recreation and First Presbyterian Church are sponsoring movies in the park at 8:30 p.m. at Edgewater Park Bandshell “Mrs. Doubtfire” will play. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. There is no cost.

 

Saturday 

The Samborie Motor Coach Rally will be at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

Shinefest’s Rocking the Block is starting their mission to complete seven houses during their week of giving back. If you would like to help out call Jim Troe at 507-402-3410.

The Albert Lea Girls’ soccer team is having its car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hy-Vee’s back parking lot. There will be a free-will donation.

The Albert Lea Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall. Homemade breads, baked goods, honey and more will be available for purchase.

The Albert Lea American Legion is giving back to the community from noon to 6 p.m. at the American Legion. They will be serving sweet corn, hot dogs, burgers and brats for free.

Soul-Fest will be from 2 to 8 p.m. at 822 South Broadway. Food distribution will be from 2 to 4 p.m. with a picnic at 5 p.m. and a concert following at 6 p.m.

Marion Ross Performing Arts Center is holding a Harmony Junction concert at 3 and 7 p.m. at the theatre. Tickets are $13.

Studebaker Brothers Band will be performing at 7 p.m. at Big Island Grille & Bar. There is no cost.
