Five games remain on the regular-season schedule, and the Albert Lea boys’ soccer team already matched last year’s win total.
The Tigers (5-3-3, 3-2-2 Big Nine) rallied to a 3-2 overtime victory Thursday at Rochester Century (1-9, 1-5 Big Nine).
“It was a great team effort,” said Albert Lea goalie Foster Otten. “In the last few games, we’ve had the most offensive production of the season.”
Otten has been an iron curtain between the posts with five shutouts in 11 games. He’s only allowed more than one goal twice this season. The other game was against Rochester Lourdes, a Class A state qualifier last year.
Goal support was critical for Albert Lea after allowing two goals and never leading until overtime.
Three lines stepped up for the Tigers. Lay Wah scored on a pass from Porfirio Garcia, Nate Nelson found the net with an assist from Spencer Indrelie and Sam Ehrhardt scored on a pass from Noah Karge.
In the conference standings, Albert Lea is sixth out of 12 teams. Three of the Tigers’ four remaining conference opponents are in the top half of the conference.
In the Section 2A standings, the Tigers are seventh out of 13 teams. Albert Lea has a Quality Results Formula ranking of No. 71 from Minnesota-Scores.net.
Next, the Tigers will host section opponent St. Peter (5-1-2, 3-0-2 Big South) at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Saints have played two Big Nine Conference opponents this year with a 2-0 loss at Mankato West (7-2-2, 4-1-2 Big Nine) and a 7-0 home win over Mankato East (1-8-1, 1-5-1 Big Nine). St. Peter is coming off consecutive 2-2 overtime ties against Worthington and Waseca.
