After going winless last season, the Albert Lea girls’ tennis team notched three wins this year.

The Tigers’ season ended Tuesday in first round of the Section 1AA tournament with a 7-0 loss at Lakeville North.

“Lakeville North had a strong team and deserved to win today,” said Albert Lea coach Tom Dyrdal. “I am proud of the way the girls performed in today’s match and all season. They played hard, had positive attitudes and displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the season.”

The Tigers won conference matches against Austin and Rochester and won a non-conference match against New Ulm.

“I was very happy with the progress our team made this year,” Dyrdal said. “I think we were one of the most improved teams in the conference.”

Although the team season is over, Albert Lea will compete in Section 1AA individual tournaments for singles and doubles on Oct. 15. Brackets have not yet been announced.
