Harold Nelson, 1921-2015

Funeral services for Harold R. Nelson will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Russell Scepaniak will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery following the service.
Harold passed away on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Olmsted Medical Center Hospital in Rochester. He was 94.
Harold Raymond Nelson was born Aug. 6, 1921, to James and Nettie (Bothum) Nelson in Saskatchewan, Canada. The family later moved to Freeborn County where Harold attended school until the eighth grade. From that time on he worked on the farm. He was united in marriage to Eleanor (Brindel) in 1951. The couple moved around the Albert Lea and Glenville areas until purchasing a farm in Rochester in 1963. Harold continued to farm his entire life, living on his family farm outside of Rochester until he passed away. Aside from farming Harold loved to bowl. In his early years, he liked to play horseshoes and was a great pitcher until he threw his arm out. He still continued to watch baseball and cheered on the Minnesota Twins.
He is survived by his children Harold L. (Jean) Nelson of Rochester, Harlan (Darlene) Nelson of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Raymond Nelson of Rochester and Mark (Mary) Nelson of Rochester; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as other loving relatives and friends.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor; a daughter at birth, Darlene; grandson, Stephen; great-great-grandchild, Payton; and siblings LuVerne, Lester, Robert and Glen.
