Richard Henry Niebuhr was born April 29, 1929, the son of Henry H. and Alma (Mischke) Niebuhr in Wells. He attended Wells public schools. Dick honorably served his country in the United States Army. On July 1, 1959, Dick was united in marriage to Irene L. Wenthold in Wells. Dick farmed the family farm just outside of Wells. He looked forward each November to going up north with the guys to hunt at the “shack.” He enjoyed playing cards — especially pfeffer and cribbage with only the guys. He loved going on family fishing outings, where he was known for making the girls get out and push the boat off the mud bars, and then pulling leeches off after. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wells American Legion, Wells Rifle Association, Hoot & Holler in Wells and 40/8 Club in Mankato.
Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene, of Wells; five children, Linda (Bob) Buendorf of Wells, Brenda (Jim) Anderson of Rochester, Sandy (Dale) Tatge of Wells, Michael (Aubrey) Niebuhr of Wells and Lucinda (Paul) Zbaracki of Golden Valley; 15 grandchildren, Jason Buendorf (significant other, Jordan Meyers), Keven Buendorf (significant other, Sarah Carson), Nicholas Buendorf (significant other, Sami Stenzel), Bridget Anderson, Bryant Anderson, Daniel (Dana) Tatge, Dianna Tatge (fiance, Bryant Dagestad), Angela Zbaracki, Rachel Drake, Maddex Niebuhr, Jadelyn Niebuhr, Marah Niebuhr, Sydney Niebuhr, Olivia Niebuhr and Hayden Niebuhr; three great-grandchildren, Shane, Ellie and Kyson Buendorf; step-brother, Ray (Charlene) Harris, of Wells; and sister-in-law, Grace Niebuhr, of Wells; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ben; and sister, LaVonne Lenort.
