50 years ago: 1965
• Dick Nielson, the new basketball coach at Albert Lea, greeted five letter winners to start the 1965-66 season: Steve Ball, Terry Gilbertson, Bill Erickson, Hollis Grorud and Darryl Gavle.
• Named to the Border League All-Conference football team were David Thompson, Mike McGee, Steve Scherb, Larry Olsen and Larry Roalstad from Kiester; Larry Mair, Terry Severson, Donald Ziegler and Lee Norman from Elmore; Greg Smith, Craig Hemmingsen and Charles Reidal from Alden; Roger Midthun, Mark Hanson and Ronnie Thom from Frost; Sherman Blom and James Beyer from Bricelyn; Clete Marrit and Don Marpe from Freeborn; John Lair and Steve Henrikson from Emmons; and Ken Claude from Delavan.
25 years ago: 1990
• Albert Lea senior Pam Stoltz signed her national letter of intent to attend Kansas State University on a full-ride basketball scholarship.
• Royal Lawn Service of Clarks Grove won the league title at the Clarks Grove Golf course. Team members were John Folie, Allen Brown, Jerry Mickelson, Larry Olson, Jim Weller, Vince Johnson, Marlin Thompson, Jerry White, Rollie Hoium, Don Austinson and Bill Christianson.
• Named to the 1990 Big Nine All-Conference football team from Albert Lea were Chad Bohonek, Jon Cluppert, Derek Fleek, Scott Johnston, Travis Olson and Mike Wayne.
• The Albert Lea volleyball team was defeated by Lakeville 3-0 by scores of 15-1, 15-1 and 15-6 in Section 1AA playoffs.
10 years ago: 2005
• Moving on to the Minnesota state girls’ swimming meet from Albert Lea was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Samantha Cole, Whitney Walters, Jackie Elwood and Amanda Walters and the 200 medley relay team of Amanda Walters, Whitney Walters, Cole and Leah Matheson.
• Alison Anderson, a senior at NRHEG, signed her national letter of intent to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, on a full-ride basketball scholarship.
• Named to the Big Nine All-Conference girls’ soccer team from Albert Lea were Kendra Olchefske, Whitney Wilson and Anna Sigurdson. Receiving All-Conference honorable mention from Albert Lea were Morgan Stadheim and Abbey Arends.
