First Lutheran Church Women
The First Lutheran Church Women met at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in Bethany Hall. Sandy Narverud introduced the program, which was the Albert Lea High School varsity choir, directed by Diane Heaney and accompanied by Bob Tewes. They sang several songs including the Advent carol “Thou Shalt Know Him When He Comes,” the Spanish carol “My Dancing Day” and “Silent Night.”
After leading the reciting of the FLCW purpose statement, Co-President Joyce Fredin presided over the business meeting.
The secretary’s report was approved as printed with a motion by Nancy Jenson and a second by Jo Hanson. Virginia Hermanson gave the treasurer’s report.
Diane Damerow reported on Holidays Ahead. It went well despite some inclement weather. She suggested an ad hoc committee be formed to evaluate Holidays Ahead and encouraged everyone to think about ideas or possible changes that might enhance the event.
This year’s secret prayer partners should be revealed after today’s meeting. New secret prayer partners will be selected at the January FLCW meeting.
Jinni Olson gave the offering prayer. Fredin thanked ushers Helen Lovik and LouJean Nelson; greeters Tep Christenson and Hermanson; hostesses Betty Ball, Judy Kropp, Janice Lestrud, Marge LaFrance and Donna Ludtke.
Caring and sharing: Co-chairwomen Carol Colstrup and Wanda Dorman and their committee served four funerals in November. The meeting was closed with the Lord’s prayer and singing the table prayer.
TOPS MN Chapter 979
The TOPS Minnesota Chapter 979 announced is October and November winners.
October division winners were Mindy Christenson, division 2; Rose Rolands, division 3; and Pat Sorenson, division 4.
Weekly biggest losers for October were Katie Koziolek and Keith Porter, first; Rolands, second; Barb Soper, third; Sorenson, fourth; and Rolands and Fern Rockwell, fifth.
A fruit shower was given to LeAnn Jones.
Lottery contest winners were Sorenson, Betty Johnson and Peggy Indrelie.
November division winners were Solberg, division 3; Johnson, division 4; and Porter, male division.
Weekly biggest losers for November were Darlene Hauge, first; Porter, second; Solberg, third; Judy Thorson, fourth.
Four-star winner was Soper.
Lottery contest winners were Sorenson, Betty Hanson, Shirley Schuster, Sorenson, Jenson and Sorenson.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit weight-loss support group. There is no diet plan but support with others on the journey to health and wellness. TOPS Minnesota 979 meets Thursday mornings at the Senior Center in the Skyline Plaza to weigh in and learn about healthy lifestyles.
Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club
The Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club hosted a Christmas party and dance on Dec. 12 at the Senior Center at Skyline Mall Plaza. Mary Mehus was the caller and called to over three squares. Christmas treats were served after the dance. Servers for the evening were Donna and Bruce Stolaas and Cindy and Benny Scherb. The group’s next dance will be on Jan. 9. Wayne Kubicek will be the caller. A potluck dinner will be served after the dance. Visitors are welcome.
Marianne De Poppe and Norma Hoerler decorated a tree for the Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club as part of the Festival of Trees at the Northbridge Mall.
