Road work is causing headache

The road construction on Fifth Street amd Virgina Place — it’s crazy to think that they are still working on this. Yesterday I came home, and they had put in a water line, dug the hole in my yard, never properly filled it in and left part of the sidewalk a jagged mess. No warning cones or yellow tape. Someone could easily trip over this and get hurt. I left work for a half hour to go up to the city office at 8 a.m. and complained about it. Got home from work and it was still this way. Really?

Last Tuesday I got home and my gas meter had been locked out. No one from the gas company told me they were changing out the meter. No heat. House was at 65 degrees. Good thing I didn’t leave for the holiday. My pipes would have frozen. The lady I talked to at the gas company was rude and said her people out in the field don’t have time to call everyone and tell them they would be working on the meters. Wow. It was about 7 p.m. when a man from the company (who was very nice) came to unlock it and light my furnace. He also informed me they were supposed to notify me. He also had to unlock my neighbor’s because they never notified them either.

They didn’t properly fill in a place they dug up and the garbage truck fell in it up to its axle. I got home from work that night and it was taped and coned off.

Is there road construction anywhere else in town? I would think they would be doing a better job for $7,846-plus — that’s my share. Of course I’m sure when they are done next year the price will go up!
