The Salvation Army of Albert Lea has been awarded a grant of $7,205 from Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless to purchase a commercial refrigerator and freezer to be used in the food pantry. With more refrigerator and freezer space, clients would not only receive non-perishable items such as dry and canned goods, but also perishable items including fresh produce and frozen meats.

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless was founded in 1986 as a non-profit dedicated to working exclusively on issues of hunger and homelessness. It awards grants to nonprofits throughout Minnesota that provide crisis and transitional services to individuals experiencing hunger and homelessness. By providing vital tangible resources, Open Your Heart ensures that hunger and homeless organizations are able to focus their attention on helping people in crisis achieve stability. They also work to raise awareness of the issues impacting people facing hunger and homelessness and support initiatives that address these complex challenges. For more information visit www.oyh.org.
