ST. PAUL — United South Central’s Derek Herman will wrestle in Saturday’s Class A championship match, after winning in the semifinals of the state wrestling tournament at Xcel Energy Center.
At 170 pounds, Herman pinned Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Ted Androli in just 28 seconds during Saturday’s semifinals. Herman (42-1) will now face Dover-Eyota’s Michael Otomo (43-1) in tonight’s state title bout.
Fellow Rebel Adam Knutson won his consolation quarterfinal to continue into the consolation bracket. Knutson won his first round in the consolation bracket with a 4-0 decision over Adrian’s Logan Rogers. He then lost an 8-6 decision to St. Charles’ Lane Heim, sending him to the fifth-place match. Knutson is scheduled to face Benson’s Grant Ascheman for fifth place. The loser of the bout will place sixth in the 145 weight class.
